Grooming Do's & Dont's
Goldendoodles are fairly easy keepers. Because Goldendoodles don’t shed profusely, they do need to be brushed regularly to remove dead/dying hair and prevent matting. A bath every few weeks/months can help keep their skin and coat in good condition, especially when they are groomed regularly between baths.
It is a good idea to trim the hair that grows over their eyes. Toenails should be trimmed as in any other breed. Professional groomers are available to perform any of these tasks that owners are not comfortable doing or just don’t want to do.
Matting is one of the biggest issues when it comes to grooming doodles of any breed. On the surface your doodle may look mat free, but once you get to the roots, that's where the issues begin.
You want to brush your dog at least three times a week to keep them, clean, mat free and beautiful. If you find small mats that cannot be easily brushed out it is okay to cut them off to prevent them from getting larger. If you can brush your Goldendoodle daily that is best. Start brushing and combing your puppy as soon as possible to help them become familiar with the process, they will become more and more comfortable with it.
Mats generally start behind the ears, under the collar, the tail and armpits. Prevention of the mats is easier than having to have the coat.
